joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> good morning, everybody, i'm jon kelly. here we go again. yes, it's do-or-die morning for bay area baseball fans as the giants and a's try to advance to the next round of the playoffs. for this we have team coverage. live team coverage of this on the must-win situation. bob redell and henry wofford are in oakland bringing us everything you need to know about the a's and that home game but we start things off with scott reese live in cincinnati, ohio, where the giants will take the field in just a few hours trying to continue working that magic. scott, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jon. yeah, early game time here, so the crews are working feverishly trying to get the field ready after last night's contest in which the giants won handily and they did it by busting out the bats like we have not seen in this series. they pounded out 11 hits, eight for extra bases, which is a franchise playoff record and, oh, by the way, three home runs mixed in as well. angel pagan led off the baseball
6:02 am
game with a solo home run. in fact it was the first time in giants playoff history that they have gotten a leadoff homer. pablo sandoval hit one that almost went into the ohio river. tim lincecum did the rest. he got the win and spoke with our jaymee sire. >> reporter: what a big game for you guys and what a big game for you personally. what was it like for you to come in out of the bullpen and be so effective and give your team such a lift? >> i think the situation kind of made it a little easier. obviously we had the lead and tons of confidence coming out of the pen. just kind of letting go of what has been going on in the year and focusing on what we need to do to win and that's just being agres if on the mound, throwing strikes and leaving it on the field. >> reporter: a lot of people thought lincecum might be the x factor in this series. at this point he is thester st f the series and the giants live to play another day.

game five coming up at 1:05 eastern time. our coverage on comcast sportsnet bay area begins at 9:00 a.m. local time. it's been a pretty interesting few days and we'll see what goes down in a winner-take-all scenario in game five. >> thank you very much. meantime in oakland, high stakes, high drama as the a's advance to game five under a ninth inning stunner. a lot of sore throats this morning. ecstatic is an understatement as fans keeping the dream alive in oakland. henry wofford is live at the coliseum with a look at the win and what it will take to advance to the next roun take it away, henry. >> reporter: well, laura, i don't know if you've heard the news, but chiropractors' phones are ringing off the hook because oakland a's backs are hurting.
6:04 am
let's take a look at the highlights from last night. no wonder they were dancing all night. an unbelievable game. a's were backed into the corner, bottom of the ninth inning. all of a sudden seth smith doubles to right, two runs come in and then coco crisp with a huge single in the bottom of the inning and all of a sudden you can just say come on, smith. he taps home plate, a's win 4-3 in walk-off fashion. there will be a game five. >> well, we've heard we're not smart enough to be we're supposed to lose a game. but we've never given up all the way to the last out. that showed tonight. so we've got to keep doing what we've been doing all year. >> there's no quit. you know, i don't know if or why teams don't do it. that's the way it should be. that's the way we've done our business all season long. >> reporter: well, let the fun
6:05 am
begin. first pitch is tonight at 6:37. you've got a 23-year-old rookie on the hill for the oakland a's, jared parker, and who will the a's have to beat to get to the american league championship series? they have to beat justin verlander, the reigning a.l. mvp and cy young winner. before we go, jon and laura, i want you guys to help me out. i'm trying to confirm a story. i heard tomorrow morning both of you will be doing the bernie if the a's win tonight. >> we may be doing it tonight. >> laura might be doing it. i'm old, henry. i go to chiropractors every day. that's good stuff, man. appreciate it. be happy to do it, you bring such good energy. >> along with that competition on the field, a's fans just trying to get to the coliseum. >> for more let's check in with bob redell who's live there as
6:06 am
well. good morning, bob. >> reporter: yeah, maybe competition of finding a parking spot. not only do you have the a's at o.co at 6:30, sold-out crowd, 36,000 fans, they'll be sharing the parking lot with the warriors exhibition game so two major sporting events within an hour of each other. fans need to show up early if they want to get a parking spot. keep in mind there's always b.a.r.t., but those trains will be crowded. and that was the scene here at o.co last night after that surprise win against the detroit tigers. to say the least these fans, wow, they do need a chiropractor looking at some of them. the team keeps its postseason hopes alive. the final game at 6:30 and the winner will advance to the playoffs for the american league pennant. >> win, baby, we're about to
6:07 am
win. we've got this! >> that was amazing. absolutely amazing. >> let's go, oakland! let's go, oakland! >> reporter: wow. tonight's game is sold out at just over 36,000 tickets. o.co is capable of holding roughly 10,000 more fans, it's just that the team as you can see here live tarped many of those upper deck seats citing lack of demand and there isn't enough time to remove them even though some fans have demanded the removal but the team didn't budge. so your best bet to get to the game is to go to stubhub because officially the tickets are sold out from the team itself. reporting live in oakland, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> for the record bob redell has the comeback ketchup in his pocket. bay area baseball front and center headline news. we'll have it other on nbc bay area.com. just click sports on that tab for more in-depth coverage all
